Trades Modernization Act
Newfoundland and Labrador's Trades Modernization Act is the Furey-then-Hogan Liberal government's effort to address a chronic skilled-trades shortage that the province estimated at 23,000 unfilled positions by 2030 across construction, energy, and shipbuilding sectors. Streamlines apprenticeship rules, recognizes credentials from out-of-province journeypersons under the Red Seal program, allows expedited certification for newcomers with foreign trade credentials, and creates a new provincial bursary for women and Indigenous apprentices.
