Terms of Use
Last updated: May 12, 2026
These terms govern your use of branchpolitics.ca("Branch," "the Service"), operated from Canada. By accessing the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Branch is an independent, non-partisan, ad-free civic-information platform. It aggregates publicly available information about Canadian politicians, parties, bills, ridings, and voting records, and presents it in plain language in English and French.
2. Not affiliated with any party, government, or media organization
Branch is operated independently. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any political party, candidate, government body, news organization, or corporate entity. Inclusion of any politician, party, or bill on the Service is not an endorsement.
Elections Canada compliance. Branch is an information service, not a third party for the purposes of the Canada Elections Act. During a federal general election period, the Service will continue presenting public-record information (votes, bills, biographies, party stances) but will not engage in election advertising, partisan promotion, or expenditure that would constitute regulated third-party activity under section 349 of the Act. Provincial election periods are treated equivalently.
3. Information accuracy and limitations
We take reasonable care to ensure the information on Branch is accurate, but:
- Information is provided as is, sourced from public records that may contain errors or be out of date.
- Plain-language summaries are editorial interpretations — for legal or official purposes, always refer to the source documents (linked on each bill page).
- Voting records, bill statuses, and politician roles change frequently; we update on a best-effort basis.
- Branch does not constitute legal, electoral, or voting advice.
If you find an error, please report it via the Corrections page.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harass, defame, or threaten any person
- Scrape, mirror, or otherwise extract data at scale without permission (use the source APIs directly — we'll happily help you find them)
- Use the Service to spread misinformation or impersonate others
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, security, or authentication
- Submit false information about yourself when creating an account
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written permission
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, Branch and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service, including but not limited to: voting decisions made based on information provided; loss of data; or interruptions to the Service. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed CA$100.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Branch harmless from any claims arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these terms.
11. Defamation and corrections
