Saskatchewan First Nations Justice Strategy Act
Saskatchewan's Bill 155 (First Nations Justice Strategy Act) is the SaskParty government's response to the persistent over-representation of Indigenous persons in the Saskatchewan justice system (Indigenous persons accounted for roughly 75 percent of adult provincial inmates in 2022 per Statistics Canada despite being approximately 17 percent of the provincial population). Establishes a First Nations Justice Strategy Office, requires three-year strategy renewals, mandates consultation with the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, and creates an annual public reporting requirement on indicators including over-representation rates, restorative-justice referrals, and Gladue-court availability.
