An Act to amend the Criminal Code (assault against a health care worker)
Bill C-220 was a Conservative Private Member's Bill amending the Criminal Code (R.S.C. 1985, c. C-46) to add assault against a healthcare worker as an aggravating factor at sentencing under section 718.2. Brought after the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions reported that 64 percent of nurses experienced violence in the workplace in 2023 (CFNU national survey), and after the 2022 Hassan Aboulkacem stabbing death of an Emergency Department staff member in Hamilton, Ontario. The Liberal government's similar amendment passed in the Tools to Combat Auto Theft and Repeat Violent Offences Act framework. C-220 itself did not pass third reading.
