An Act to establish a national framework for the prevention and treatment of cancers linked to firefighting. Royal assent June 22, 2023 (S.C. 2023, c. 16-ish, see compilation). Liberal private member's bill sponsored by Sherry Romanado (MP for Longueuil-Charles-LeMoyne) requiring the Minister of Health, in consultation with provinces, the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, and firefighter unions, to develop a national framework on the recognition, prevention, and treatment of occupational cancers in firefighters. Occupational-cancer rates among firefighters are documented at multiple times the general population for several specific cancer types.
