An Act to amend the Criminal Code (intimidation of health care professionals)
Bill C-230 (44-1) was a Conservative Private Member's Bill from Kelly Block (Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek) to protect health workers' freedom of conscience on medical assistance in dying (MAID). It would have made it a Criminal Code offence to intimidate a doctor, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, or other health professional into taking part in MAID, and to fire or refuse to hire one only because they decline to take part. Supporters framed it as conscience protection; critics worried it could make MAID harder to access. The bill was defeated at second reading on October 5, 2022.
