An Act respecting a federal framework on autism spectrum disorder
Federal Framework on Autism Spectrum Disorder Act. Royal assent April 27, 2023 (S.C. 2023, c. 3). Senate public bill sponsored by Senator Leo Housakos (Conservative, Quebec). Requires the Minister of Health to develop a federal framework on autism spectrum disorder addressing diagnosis, services, family support, and information sharing across the federal-provincial divide. Builds on the existing patchwork of provincial autism programs that vary widely in eligibility, age cutoffs, and funding. Statistics Canada estimates approximately 2% of children aged 1 to 17 have an autism diagnosis.
