S-228Government of Canada
An Act to amend the Constitution Act, 1867 (property qualifications of Senators)
Removes the property qualification for senators (the requirement that they own at least $4,000 of real estate in the province they represent) from the Constitution Act, 1867. The Constitution lets Parliament make this change alone for most provinces; Quebec's 24 special senatorial districts may require provincial consent.
