An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights (information about the victim)
Bill S-238 (44-1), known as the Veronique Barbe Act, was a Senate Private Member's Bill to amend the Criminal Code and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights so a court could order an accused or offender not to publish, distribute, or post online any information about their victims, and to give victims a right to ask for such an order. The bill answered cases where offenders used the internet to harass or expose victims and their families. It is named after Veronique Barbe, a Quebec woman killed by her partner in 2017. It did not pass third reading.
