An Act to establish a national framework on food allergy
Bill S-247 was a Senate Private Member's Bill establishing a federal national framework on food allergy, anaphylaxis, and food-allergen labelling. Approximately 7.5 percent of Canadians live with diagnosed food allergies per Food Allergy Canada and the Allergy/Asthma Information Association 2024 estimates (approximately 3 million Canadians). The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Food Allergen Labelling Regulations (SOR/2011-280) require disclosure of 11 priority allergens; the bill aimed to add federal-coordination on hospital-emergency-room anaphylaxis response training, school-and-childcare anaphylaxis-preparedness standards, and expanded allergen-disclosure rules for prepared foods. Did not pass third reading.
