An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, to make related amendments to the Food and Drugs Act and to repeal the Perfluorooctane Sulfonate Virtual Elimination Act. Royal assent June 13, 2023 (S.C. 2023, c. 12). First substantive modernization of CEPA 1999 since enactment. Adds a statutory right to a healthy environment to CEPA, requires the federal government to develop an implementation framework within two years, modernizes the Toxic Substances List management process (now called the List of Substances), and aligns federal toxic-substance regulation more closely with international (REACH) standards. Sponsored by Steven Guilbeault as Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
