Doly Begum is the federal Liberal MP for Toronto Scarborough Southwest (Ontario), elected at the April 13, 2026 federal byelection that helped secure the Carney Liberal majority government. The first Bangladeshi-Canadian to serve in the federal House of Commons (she was previously the first Bangladeshi-Canadian elected to any Canadian legislature when she won the Ontario provincial seat of Scarborough Southwest for the Ontario NDP in 2018; crossed to the federal Liberals to contest the 2026 byelection). Before politics she worked as a community organizer in the Scarborough area, focusing on immigration-and-settlement services. Won the 2026 byelection over Conservative candidate and former Toronto city councillor Brad Bradford.
