Rechie Valdez is the federal Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism in the Carney cabinet. Liberal MP for Mississauga-Streetsville since 2021. Born in Zambia to Filipino parents, she came to Canada as a child and built a wholesale bakery business in the GTA before politics. She was the first Filipino-Canadian woman elected to the federal Parliament. Previously Minister of Small Business under Trudeau (2023-2025).
