Niki Ashton is the NDP Indigenous and Northern Affairs Critic and MP for Churchill-Keewatinook Aski (Manitoba), elected in 2008 at age 26. The youngest woman ever elected as a federal NDP MP at the time of her first election. Ran for the federal NDP leadership in 2012 (against Tom Mulcair) and 2017 (against Jagmeet Singh), finishing fourth and second respectively. Her parliamentary work has focused on First Nations water and housing (driving Bill C-61 of 44-1), youth homelessness, and the Manitoba-federal jurisdictional questions on northern healthcare.
