Valerie Plante is the 45th Mayor of Montreal (since November 16, 2017) and Leader of Projet Montreal (since December 4, 2016). Re-elected in November 2021. The first woman elected mayor of Montreal. Before politics she worked as a community organizer with the YMCA of Montreal and Equitas (a human-rights education organization). As Mayor she has overseen the REM light-rail-network coordination, the Pink Line metro proposal, the 2024 city budget's third consecutive over-inflation tax increase, the Ville-Marie bike-path network expansion, and the 2030 climate plan committing Montreal to carbon neutrality.
