MP for Ottawa Centre. Former Ontario Attorney General; Pakistani-born immigration lawyer. Born in Karachi in 1973, his family came to Canada as refugees in 1988. Served as Ontario MPP for Ottawa Centre from 2007 to 2018, holding successive cabinet portfolios including Minister of Labour (2013-2014), Attorney General (2014-2016), and Government House Leader (2016-2018). President of the Ontario Liberal Party from 2018 to 2021 during the Wynne-government rebuilding period, before winning Ottawa Centre federally in 2021 and being appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.
