Born in Punjab, India, and trained as a medical-laboratory technologist with two decades of experience in diabetes prevention and care at Trillium Health Partners and other Ontario hospitals before politics. First elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019, 2021, and 2025. Founded and chairs the All-Party Diabetes Caucus on Parliament Hill. Sponsored Bill C-237 in the 43rd Parliament establishing November as National Diabetes Awareness Month, which received royal assent on July 1, 2021 (S.C. 2021, c. 9).
