Sam Austin is a Halifax Regional Municipality councillor for Dartmouth Centre (District 5), first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020 and 2024. Before politics he was a federal Liberal Party staffer and a community organizer in Dartmouth. As a councillor he has focused on the Dartmouth waterfront revitalization, the Macdonald Bridge and Halifax Harbour Bridge cross-municipality coordination, and the response to the homelessness encampments that grew in Dartmouth's Geary Lane, Cogswell Tower area, and Pavillion Park between 2022 and 2024. Has supported the HRM Council's calls for federal-provincial-municipal homelessness intervention funding.
