Rachel Notley served as the 17th Premier of Alberta (May 24, 2015 to April 30, 2019) and Leader of the Alberta NDP (October 18, 2014 to June 22, 2024). MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona (2008-2023). Daughter of former Alberta NDP leader Grant Notley. Her government broke 44 years of Progressive Conservative rule. As Premier she introduced the Alberta carbon levy, raised the corporate-tax rate from 10 to 12 percent, brought in the $15 minimum wage, banned corporate and union political donations, and reformed the Workers' Compensation Board. Returned to opposition leader after losing the 2019 election to Jason Kenney's UCP and the 2023 election to Danielle Smith's UCP before retiring in 2024.
